About This Listing

Is a circa 1920s 2 bedroom Miner's Cottage. The exterior of the building is typical of it's era and is in the corrugated iron style common to this area. This style of construction was popular in Broken Hill due to the extreme cost of transporting bricks from South Australia. It was an affordable way of obtaining home ownership. Most Australians are unfamiliar with this concept, having been raised on the notion that a house has to be made of brick in order to be "solid".

In Broken Hill "solid" construction is prone to cracking problems due to the mine firings, over time this becomes a major issue as the cracks get bigger, as does salt damp.
The property is fully fenced including a dividing gate between front and rear yards.
The front yard is dominated by 3 huge "Bird of Paradise" plants.
The rear yard is predominately lawn.

Interior

The walls are lined from the floor to the 4' level with floor boards. This was again typical of its era, was very durable (compared to fibrous plaster) and was a bonus for us to find them still in situ as normally they are torn out over the years and replaced with Gyprock.
The floors are the original timber and have been polished and sealed.

Please note that Yellow Gum is an historic "Miner's Cottage" around 100 years old. It is not modern nor is the decor contemporary - if you want modern and/or contemporary then it will not suit you.

The main bedroom has a Queen bed. The 2nd bedroom has 2 x Single beds. There is a light and airy kitchen which is semi split with the dining area.

The dining area is also semi split with the lounge area, plentiful seating is provided.
No need to squint to watch TV, it is nice and big - 107cm (42 inch) screen.

All the normal white goods, utensils and facilities are provided. There is a domestic range (Oven with hot plates) for those who want to cook plus a standard microwave oven.

Please note: Weekly rate may not be available for the weekend of the St Pat’s races, Easter and/or School Holidays – a minimum number of nights stay may also apply or/and higher prices.

Dogs - can sleep in the laundry area at night. Dogs are NOT allowed on or in the beds or the lounge chairs, evidence of this occurring will incur a $50 cleaning fee per furnishing item.
Likewise, dogs are NOT allowed to be showered, evidence of this occurring will incur a $50 cleaning fee. Making a booking for this cottage requires you agree to the contents of this paragraph.
